Your surgical experience...
Better care for you, your community, your world.
Welcome
The Staff of Muskogee Community Hospital is pleased that you and your physician have made the decision to utilize our Facility. We want to make your upcoming visit as comfortable and as pleasant as possible. MCH provides the highest quality of care in a warm, personalized setting for patients who require surgery. We realize that even elective surgery such as the procedure for which you are scheduled can create anxiety. This brochure addresses the most frequently asked questions about outpatient surgery. If you have additional questions or concerns, please feel free to call us.
The warm surroundings and the high level of individual attention from our staff will provide to both you and your family members minimized stress that is often associated with surgery. Our pleasant atmosphere and special attention are particularly helpful in easing the fears of our patients and their families, especially children who are scheduled for surgery.
Our Commitment
Muskogee Community Hospital was founded to provide our patients and physicians with the finest quality of outpatient care delivered in a compassionate and efficient manner. A highly skilled team of registered nurses and surgical technicians specially trained in surgical and recovery care supports the physicians.
Our staff is carefully selected for their dedication to providing personalized care and service. Education, experience and licensure are verified on all Medical Staff members and professional staff.
Perioperative Evaluation and Management (POEM) is an important part of the care you will receive if you are having surgery at MCH. You may require a pre-anesthesia consultation.
Your physician’s office will schedule this on your behalf. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Preparing for your surgery...
CAREFUL ATTENTION TO THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS WILL HELP ENSURE YOUR COMFORT AND REDUCE THE POSSIBILITY OF COMPLICATIONS
DO NOT EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING, including water, hard candy or chewing gum 8 hours before your procedure, unless otherwise directed. Undigested food in the stomach can cause complications and your surgery is likely to be postponed if you forget to follow these instructions. Do not drink any alcoholic beverages for 24 hours before or after your operation. Alcohol may increase the depth of your anesthesia or the effect of the medicines, which you will be given.
BATHE OR SHOWER and brush your teeth (taking care not to swallow any water) the morning of surgery. This will assist you in feeling refreshed as well as minimize the chance of infection.
REMOVE ALL MAKE-UP, NAIL POLISH, CONTACTS AND JEWELRY. We also suggest that you wear casual, loose clothing, to accommodate any dressings. During surgery, you will wear a patient gown provided by MCH. Babies and children may wear nightclothes to the hospital. It is reassuring for infants and children to have a favorite toy or “security blanket” with them.
Leave your valuables at home or give them to a family member for safekeeping.
ARRANGE to have a competent ADULT ACCOMPANY YOU TO THE HOSPITAL, DRIVE YOU HOME and remain with you overnight, on the first night following your surgery.
LIMIT THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WHO ACCOMPANY YOU to the Hospital. Both parents of the pediatric patient are welcome at the Hospital, and at least one parent must remain on site throughout the procedure. Siblings of pediatric patients are not permitted in the patient care areas and may not be left unattended in the Hospital.
IF YOU EXPERIENCE ANY HEALTH CHANGES between your most recent visit to your physician and the day of your procedure, notify your physician. Please report even minor changes, such as an elevated temperature, cough or cold.
REFRAIN FROM SMOKING after midnight and on the day of your procedure.
IF YOU SUSPECT THAT YOU ARE PREGNANT, please notify your surgeon. Anesthesia and medication may be harmful to the developing fetus.
Check with your physician and follow his orders about taking your normal medications on the morning of surgery.
Upon discharge, you will be taken to the Front Lobby where the individual accompanying you may pick you up.
