Community
One of the best examples of our devotion to our community is our onsite training center. The training center is 4,300 square foot area dedicated to education. The training center consists of a large area for class discussion and group training, a mock-up patient room, a mock up emergency room and a mock up operating room. Each of these rooms was built to the same specifications as the rooms in the hospital. Each room also has the use of simulation mannequins, which are advanced patient simulators for individual and team training. The simulation mannequin has realistic anatomy and clinical functionality, allowing nurses and students to practice clinical and decision making skills.
Now that the hospital is open, the training center has been extended for use to the five nursing programs in the Muskogee area: Bacone College, Connors State College, Indian Capital Career Tech, Northeastern State University and Oklahoma Wesleyan University. The students will have the ability to: practice skills such as IV insertion and removal, wound care, blood pressure measurement, inserting and removing trach tubes, and PICC line insertion and removal. The students and teacher of the five higher learning institutions have access to state of the art equipment. The educator has access to case studies and scenarios for use with the patient simulator. The scenarios address the major learning objectives of the American Heart Association’s Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) interventions. Through use of the facility, nursing students will have the knowledge and skills to deploy the interventions that will treat cardiac arrest and other life threatening medical emergencies.
The training center will be used to benefit the public community as well. Muskogee Community Hospital has made arrangements for the American Red Cross and the Muskogee County EMS to use the facility for public outreach. The Red Cross will use the training center to teach basic life support courses, while EMS will use the facility to provide further training to EMT’s. Many other avenues of training are also being explored. Upcoming programs include summer camp courses for middle school and high school students interested in entering the medical field, as well as public awareness courses for heart disease, diabetes and cancer. The facility will provide opportunities for education in our community to nurses, doctors, teachers and students both young and old!
Better care for you, your community, your world.
